Optimizing “Common ER Treatments” Page

Overview

As part of exploring ways to improve healthcare marketing performance, I conducted a self-initiated website audit and optimization project for Excel ER, a freestanding emergency room in Nacogdoches, TX.

My goal was to identify how better SEO strategy, localization, and patient education could increase visibility and drive more qualified patient visits. In addition to technical and strategic improvements, I also focused on introducing more creative, human-centered copy to make the content feel approachable, empathetic, and aligned with how real patients search for and connect with emergency care.

The Problem

  1. Low local visibility: Excel ER’s website is not optimized for location, even though a competing ER has opened in a nearby town.

  2. Educational gap: Patients often confuse ER vs. urgent care, leading to frustration and misuse of services.

  3. Weak SEO structure: The “Common ER Treatments” page has minimal copy, limited keywords, and no clear metadata or internal linking strategy.

Tools & Process

  • SEMrush: Site audit and keyword research

  • Excel247ER.com review: Analyzed word count and readability
